Ethos Veterinary Health Opens First Urgent Care Facility in New England

December 8, 2022
The practice offers quality, convenient care to Boston area pet owners.

WOBURN, MA – December, 2022: Ethos Veterinary Health is pleased to announce the opening of their first Veterinary Urgent Care practice in New England. The new facility, which is centrally located in the Station Landing Plaza in Medford, offers convenience for pet owners in the surrounding areas, including Everett, Somerville, Cambridge, Chelsea, and Woburn. With this new urgent care location, Ethos hopes to provide support to sister area hospitals, including Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn, MA, Bulger Veterinary Hospital in Lawrence, MA, and Boston West Veterinary Emergency and Specialty in Natick, MA . Ethos has strong partnerships with regional referring veterinarians, and their team can provide quality services for pets needing urgent care.

The Station Landing Urgent Care practice in Medford, MA is the fourth clinic to open in 2022. Veterinary Urgent Care clinics by Ethos are already open and running in San Diego, Oceanside, and Irvine, CA. The Station Landing Veterinary Urgent Care clinic is the first of two being added in New England. The team in Medford will provide veterinary care for pets needing medical attention but not experiencing a life-threatening condition. The practice is ramping up in December and will be open seven days a week in January; the veterinary team will provide care when a pet needs medical care quickly but can’t get an appointment with their regular veterinarian soon enough. Their goal is to support the other Boston area emergency/critical care hospitals by treating less critical overflow cases.

The Medford urgent pet care practice will address conditions that include:

  • Ear infections — Ear infections are painful for pets and, untreated, can cause complications such as hearing loss and neurologic signs.
  • Lameness — Pets can favor a limb for multiple reasons, and the urgent care team can determine the cause of a pet’s limp.
  • Broken nails — Broken nails are painful and can bleed profusely. Pet owners can call Ethos’ urgent care team for a same-day appointment for their pet.
  • Itchy skin — Itchy skin can be extremely uncomfortable for pets and lead to excessive scratching, which can cause open wounds if not addressed promptly.
  • Respiratory signs — The urgent care team can treat respiratory signs, such as sneezing and coughing, to prevent complications such as pneumonia.
  • Dental issues — Dental issues, such as tooth root abscesses and fractured teeth, can prevent pets from eating and should be addressed as soon as possible.
  • Minor injuries — The team can treat minor injuries that don’t involve large open wounds or extensive bleeding.
  • Eye issues — Eye conditions can quickly worsen, and pet owners should not wait for a regular veterinary appointment.
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances — If a pet has diarrhea or is vomiting, Ethos’ urgent care team can determine the cause and devise an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Inappetence — A decrease in appetite or inappetence can indicate serious illness and should be investigated as soon as possible.
  • Hot spots — Hot spots are painful for pets and can worsen quickly if not treated promptly.
  • Allergic reactions — The team can appropriately care for a pet if they have an allergic reaction that doesn’t involve difficulty breathing.
  • Porcupine quills — Porcupine quills that aren’t promptly removed can migrate and potentially puncture body cavities or internal organs.
  • Scooting — Scooting can indicate issues such as anal sac complications or parasites that Ethos’ urgent care team can easily address.

The team at the Station Landing urgent care practice in Medford can care for numerous conditions but is not equipped to handle emergency or critical care situations. If a pet experiences a seizure, has eaten something toxic, is having difficulty breathing, is straining to urinate or defecate, has suffered paralysis, or major trauma, they must be taken directly to an emergency veterinary hospital.

Ethos plans to open more urgent care practices in New England, and plans are currently underway to open a location in Nashua, NH, in early 2023.Ethos Veterinary Health Opens First Urgent Care Facility in New England.
