Advancing Emergency Medicine: A Guided Path to ABVP Board Certification
June 10, 2026
Emergency medicine is built on experience, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous professional growth. For emergency veterinarians, board certification is an opportunity to practice at the highest level—deepening clinical expertise, strengthening decision-making in complex cases, and advancing the quality of care delivered to every patient.
At Ethos Veterinary Health, you are supported in that journey through the ER ABVP Guided program, a mentor-supported pathway designed for emergency veterinarians and other practicing clinicians. You can pursue American Board of Veterinary Practitioners diplomate status while continuing to practice in one of our 140+ Ethos network hospitals.
We are enrolling emergency veterinarians and other practicing clinicians across career stages, from those who have recently completed an internship or ER Immerse to experienced doctors seeking a structured, supported route to board certification that adds true flexibility not offered by a traditional residency.
A Learning Pathway Built Around Real‑World Practice
You continue practicing in one of our network hospitals while progressing through a 36-month pathway, applying advanced knowledge in real time while maintaining your schedule, salary, and benefits.
Your learning is supported by a connected network of mentors, peers, and clinical leaders. You build meaningful relationships within your cohort and across the profession, creating a strong peer network and lasting connections with leaders in emergency medicine.
As you move through the program, you expand your clinical confidence and scope of practice through real-world assessments that help you clearly track your growth as a clinician. This experience brings renewed energy to your work and opens the door to broader opportunities and long-term career development within Ethos.
A Veterinarian Perspective
For Dr. Lindsay Renzullo, Medical Director at Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital, the program offered the balance needed to pursue certification while maintaining her clinical and leadership responsibilities.
“The ABVP Guided Program appealed to me because it offers both structure and flexibility, providing the support I needed while allowing me to continue in my current role.”
She credits the mentorship as a defining part of the experience, noting that mentors are genuinely invested in participant success.
The program has strengthened both her clinical expertise and her ability to mentor other emergency doctors, reflecting a culture of caring for caregivers and investing in team growth.
