Chris Thomson

DVM, DACVS-SAVeterinary Surgeon

Dr. Chris Thomson is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a specialist in veterinary surgery with a particular focus on surgical oncology, minimally-invasive surgery, and interventional radiology. Following residency, Dr. Thomson was selected for a fellowship in surgical oncology at the Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University, the best recognized and longest standing training programs worldwide for veterinary surgical oncology.

Dr. Thomson earned his veterinary doctorate from the University of Minnesota. Following a rotating internship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he returned to the University of Minnesota for a residency in small animal surgery. Following residency, he completed the fellowship in surgical oncology at Colorado State University. Dr. Thomson has been on the executive board for the Veterinary Endoscopy Society for two years and is an active member of the Veterinary Society for Surgical Oncology and the Veterinary Interventional Radiology and Interventional Endoscopy Society. He is the author of textbook chapters and numerous scientific articles and has been recognized for lecturing nationally and internationally.

Through minimally invasive (or keyhole) surgery, Dr. Thomson is driven to minimize the pain and complications related to surgery while maximizing patient outcomes. Similarly, with the use of interventional radiology (or moving x-rays), Dr. Thomson is able to treat various forms of unresectable or metastatic tumors through chemoembolization, provide palliative stenting for obstructions of the urinary system and blood vessels, and bolization for vascular anomalies such as liver shunts.

When not in the hospital, Dr. Thomson is often outdoors and enjoys spending time with his wife Allison, their crazy weimaraner, and two cats.
