
Dr. Chi-Ya Chen was born and raised in Taiwan and went to National Chung-Hsing University for her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. She has always had love for surgery and decided to come to the U.S. in 2013 to continue her education. She went on to complete her clinical year at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and a rotating internship at Mississippi State University. With her relentless determination, she finished a surgical fellowship focusing on minimally invasive surgical training and assessment at Washington State University, as well as a surgical internship at Atlantic Veterinary Collage of Veterinary Medicine. She returned to Washington State University to complete her surgical residency.
Dr. Chen’s special interests include minimally invasive surgical procedures (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy) as well as oncologic and reconstructive surgery. She also likes fracture repair and orthopedic procedures to help alleviate pain and discomfort for her patients. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, snorkeling, cooking, and exploring all the different cuisines on Oahu with her husband. Dr. Chen enjoys being a member of the team at VERC, providing advanced surgical care for patients across the state of Hawaii.
