Remission: What Clinical Studies Make Possible

Advancing Care Through Research
When Brielle, a young and energetic mixed-breed dog, was diagnosed with lymphoma, her owner, Patricia, was bracing for the worst. Having lost another dog to cancer just a few years earlier, the moment felt all too familiar. After finding a lump and receiving confirmation, Patricia searched for answers, only to find information that felt overwhelming and discouraging.
“I was preparing for the possibility that I might only have weeks left with her,” she shared.
What came next was not something she expected: another option.
Through Ethos Discovery, the research incubator of Ethos Veterinary Health, clinical studies bring emerging therapies directly into hospital care, connecting patients with new options while advancing evidence-based medicine.
As the SOLID clinical study nears completion, it marks a major milestone for Ethos Discovery. With 100 patients enrolled, each case represents both progress in research and a story of care in action.
Brielle was one of those patients, helping bring the study to its final enrollment milestone.
Brielle was referred to Peak Veterinary Referral Center in Williston, Vermont, where her care team introduced a different path forward through participation in the SOLID clinical study, which focuses on understanding how different forms of lymphoma behave and respond to treatment.

A New Option at the Moment It Mattered Most
For Patricia, choosing to enroll came quickly. “I work in science. I believe in research,” she said. “If participating in a study could help even one dog in the future, it felt like something we had to do.”
Within two weeks of starting treatment, Brielle was already in remission.
“It felt like whiplash,” Patricia said. “One moment I was preparing to say goodbye, and the next, everything changed.”
Today, Brielle remains in complete remission and has returned to her normal routine, full of energy and personality. Patricia describes a care team at Peak that focused not only on treatment, but on who Brielle is.
“They don’t treat her like a case. They know who she is. They celebrate her. That makes all the difference.”

Beyond One Patient
Brielle’s story is deeply personal, but it also reflects something larger happening across Ethos. Clinical studies like SOLID are made possible through collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and pet owners who choose to participate.
Each patient contributes to a growing body of evidence that will help shape how diseases like lymphoma are treated in the future.
For veterinarians and care teams, this is what it looks like to be part of advancing medicine in real time, bringing new therapies into practice while contributing to the broader progression of the field.
For Patricia, the impact is both immediate and lasting. “It’s an honor to be part of something that could help other dogs,” she said.
At Ethos, that shared commitment to patients in front of us and those still to come continues to move veterinary medicine forward.
