Investing in the Future of Veterinary Students

For veterinary students, finding the right career path can feel overwhelming. From choosing between job offers to deciding whether to pursue a specialty, figuring out all the options – and the pros and cons to the kind of work they want to do – seems like a daunting task.
At Ethos, we recognize that stress, and we know veterinary students begin making career decisions long before graduation. That’s why we created “Careers Unleashed,”
an annual free, live webinar series that enables students to connect with experienced veterinarians, recruiters, and other experts from across the Ethos national network to better understand the avenues available to them.
Careers Unleashed just completed its third series, and topics ranged from externships and specialty training to mentorship, career planning, and transitioning from veterinary school to practice.
This year, for the first time, the program was expanded to include first- and second-year veterinary students to help alleviate their uncertainty and gain greater clarity about the many career paths available in veterinary medicine.
Throughout six sessions, students said they most valued hearing directly from veterinarians who had been in their shoes, such as Dr. Noah McNaughton, who joined the Externship session to share how Ethos helped shape him from veterinary student, to Ethos extern, to DVM of Animal Emergency Hospital in Grand Rapids through our ER Immerse program.
