AVES Brings Cutting-Edge Cancer Treatment to Pets and Families in Central Texas

May 20, 2026

Bringing Advanced Radiation Oncology to AVES

Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES), part of Ethos Veterinary Health, is advancing cancer care with the launch of a new Radiation Oncology service featuring the Accuray Radixact™ Oncology Therapy System. This is one of only two systems currently used in veterinary medicine in the United States.

This addition is part of AVES’ newly opened facility, which celebrated its grand opening in March and hosted a ribbon-cutting earlier this month.

AVES is now among a small number of veterinary hospitals nationwide offering this level of advanced cancer treatment technology.

Expertise Driving Exceptional Care

Led by board-certified radiation oncologists Dr. Lauren Smith-Oskrochi and Dr. Michael Deveau, this new service reflects how our teams continue to bring together innovation, collaboration, care and expertise to improve outcomes and enhance the experience for pets and the people who love them.

“Bringing Radiation Oncology to AVES marks an important step forward in elevating cancer care throughout our region,” said Dr. Smith-Oskrochi. “This service allows us to combine sophisticated technology with a collaborative, team-based approach to deliver highly individualized treatment plans for every patient.”

Unlike conventional radiation systems, the Radixact system allows clinicians to target tumors with incredible precision while minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissue. For many pets, this can mean fewer treatments, fewer anesthesia events and maintaining a better quality of life throughout treatment.

Leading the Future of Veterinary Oncology

By investing in advanced technology and the teams delivering this specialized care, AVES is helping redefine what’s possible in veterinary medicine and expanding access to advanced cancer treatment across Central Texas and the surrounding region, giving pets and the people who love them more quality years together.

This capability continues to position our Ethos teams as leaders in innovative, patient-centered veterinary care, setting a new standard for cancer treatment and specialty medicine.
