Libbey Schmitt

DVM, DACVS-SASAB Veterinarian Branch Vice Chairwoman, Surgery Representative

About

Dr. Libbey Schmitt obtained her veterinary degree from Iowa State University, after which she completed a rotating small animal internship with BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Michigan. Following that, she spent one year at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center as a surgical intern and then returned to Iowa State for her surgical residency.

Through all her training, Dr. Schmitt found what excites her the most about surgery is the opportunity it gives doctors to have a direct impact on the health and well-being of their patients. Surgery requires intimate knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as a technical skill set making it a challenging but rewarding career. Dr. Schmitt prides herself on patient care and client education, both of which play a vital role in positive case outcomes.

Outside of work, Dr. Schmitt enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, son, and three Labradors. They are yellow, black, and silver. Only missing a chocolate!
