Celebrating Match Day 2025: Inside the Ethos House Officer Experience
April 7, 2025At Ethos Veterinary Health, we’re revolutionizing what it means to be an intern or resident in veterinary medicine. From a curated didactic curriculum for rotating interns to the development of the nation’s first competency framework for veterinary radiology training, we are building exceptional pathways for veterinarians seeking advanced clinical education.
Our commitment goesbeyond clinical exposure. Through partnerships with Ethos Discovery, house officers gain access to fully-funded, multicenter research projects—an invaluable opportunity for interns applying to competitive residencies and for residents on their journey toward board certification. We also prioritize support for our mentors, equipping them with the resources, training, and structure they need to deliver outstanding learning experiences.
And the results speak for themselves.
In 2025, over 160 interns and nearly 40 new residents will begin their journey within Ethos hospitals, marking another record-setting year. Our hospitals once again outperformed average match rates for both internship and residency programs posted through the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP)—a testament to the quality of our programs and the dedication of our hospital teams.
Stories of Growth, Mentorship, and Opportunity

“I applied to Veterinary Specialty Hospital knowing I would be the first medical oncology resident trained at that facility, which was both exciting and a little daunting. What gave me confidence was my prior experience with Ethos—I knew the company emphasized high-quality training and supported research opportunities through Ethos Discovery. Since starting my program, that commitment has absolutely held true. In addition to a varied and busy caseload to learn from, I’ve felt supported every step of the way, and the collaborative, forward-thinking environment has made this a truly rewarding experience.”
— Patrick Khalife, DVM, Medical Oncology Resident
“I chose to do my internship at MVES/OPVES because of the hospital’s great reputation, the strong sense of teamwork, and the supportive learning environment. From the beginning, I felt like part of a team that truly values mentorship, growth, and high-quality patient care. The variety of cases and the approachability of the specialists made it the perfect place to build my skills and confidence. My experience here has been incredibly positive, and the guidance I’ve received played a big role in my decision to stay on as a surgical intern. MVES/OPVES fosters a culture of learning and collaboration that makes it an exciting place to grow, and I’m really looking forward to continuing my training within the Ethos network.”
— Spencer Trinca, DVM, Small Animal Rotating Intern
“I initially chose Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists for my rotating internship because of its high case load and exceptional diagnostic imaging department, which provided an invaluable learning experience. I was thankful to have the opportunity to stay on for both my diagnostic imaging internship and now my residency. What I appreciate most about this program is the collaborative and supportive environment among the various specialties. The teamwork here is truly remarkable, and I’m excited to continue growing and learning alongside such a talented group of individuals.”
— Nina Marchell, DVM, Diagnostic Imaging Resident
