Dr. Amy Furtado graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. degree in Biology, minor in Chemistry in 1996. She continued on at the University of California, Davis where she graduated with her DVM in 2000. On July 1, 2000, Dr. Furtado joined Atlantic Street Pet Emergency Center and has been an emergency veterinarian ever since.
She enjoys all forms of emergency and critical care but has a professional interest in traumatic wound care, cytology, hematology and endocrine diseases. Dr. Furtado is also a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the California Veterinary Medical Association.
Although her primary hobby is shuttling her lovely and feisty daughter, Ellie, around so she can enjoy all of her hobbies, Dr. Furtado has many of her own. She enjoys horseback riding, gardening, home improvement and spending time with her husband Darrin, family and friends. She also has plenty of pets to keep her busy. The furry Furtado family includes two pugs, Dora and Isa (named by her daughter), two cats, Freyja and Blackjack along with three horses, Patch, Khashlemara and Trixie.
